No style of photography takes more planning and equipment than astrophotography. Light pollution, moon phase, wind, cloud layer and night sky apps all have to look promising before you pack up your gear and head out to a location.

I use PhotoPills while scouting to show how and when the Milky Way will line up with the foreground.
In this shot taken at the Trona Pinnacles. Iām set up behind a boulder to shelter the cameras from the wind. One camera is pointing North-East shooting the Andromeda Galaxy while the other is facing South East shooting the Milky Way.
